After a brief side trip we are back to look at what the final habit (that I am going to cover in this series of posts) will be. Each of the these habits are vitally important for us to make our faith ours, to forge our own understanding of who Jesus is and how he relates to us now, so It’s important that we make a conscious effort to try and include these habits in our day to day life. In the next post series I will look at some practical ways in which we might be able to form and maintain these habits.
For now though, here is:
The Third Thing of Three
Let me tell you, in all honesty, this is one of the BEST ways that you can discover who God is for yourself. Since I’m being honest, I might as well continue, this is something that I don’t find easy to do today – I have to be quite creative about the ways that I pray. But when I first became a Christian it was the way that I was able to connect with God. I was going through a whole lot of crap at the time, I had lost all my friends from school, it seemed like the world was against me, and I was totally alone in the world, at least I felt like it, and I remember many times that I just would cry out to God in tears, and he was always there for me. I could feel his presence so close, it was always a comfort to me.
That is one of the reasons that I am still around, doing what I do today, because I have encountered Jesus, I know that he is real because I have experienced his love for me at my lowest point, when I had lost everything that was important to me.
Let me encourage you that when you pray, even if you feel like it’s not doing anything, even if you think that no one is listening, that there is no one there, the prayer is bouncing off the roof and you think it is the most ridiculous thing that you could be doing, God is there with you, the Holy Spirit is there with you, Jesus has promised that He will never leave you, and He never will. You may not feel like he is there, but he is, and he hears you, and he loves you, and he is for you, and he will never leave you.
That’s Good News.
So there you have 3 ways that you can make your faith your own, and I want to finish by asking you, are you able to say that your faith is your own? Is it something that you’ve decided? I don’t mean that you are involved in church, or that you are serving, or even that you attend church, as I said earlier, I’ve seen people who still attend church, but are not interested in Jesus at all. This is something that you need to make your own decision on, one way or another, and the truth is that you will have to answer for that decision. I’m not going to tell you that you have to believe in Jesus, he leaves that option open to us, but there is no middle ground, you have to choose, and not making a choice is making a choice. I would encourage you to choose Jesus, because he is worth it – I can tell you from 17 years of faith, it is the best decision that I have ever made, and I do not regret one second. And that’s what I want for you – the best life that you can possibly have, and that is only found in Jesus.
