Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…Ephesians 1:3
The New Year is here!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope that you have had a wonderful Christmas and an amazing start to 2017. I can’t believe that we have already begun another year! Advent is over, Christmas has finished, and it’s time to enjoy some rest and relaxation – I hope that you get the opportunity to!
I was reading through Ephesians over the holiday period, and in chapter 1 it lists out some wonderful descriptions of how God sees us in Christ, so I thought that I’d share some of them with you for you to meditate on over summer.
1. God has chosen us…
This is an awesome thought! That we are chosen by God! Think on that for a moment. What does that mean for you and your self understanding? That YOU are chosen by God, that the creator of the universe, not only created you, knit you together as it were, but also chose you! He has looked at you and chosen you in Christ. How awesome is that?
2. … to be holy…
Not only has He chosen you, but He has chosen you for a reason. That being to be holy, to be His, to be set apart from the rest of the world, to be wholly devoted to Him. This is what ‘holy’ means, to be set apart, and made special, to be set aside for a special use. That is what God has chosen you for! To be used by Him for a special work, one that He has prepared in advance for you to perform, again, what does this say about your worth and how God sees you?
3. … and blameless…
On top of this choosing and setting aside for a particular good work, He has chosen you to be blameless. Don’t you sometimes get tired of the way that today, it seems, that everyone is looking for someone to blame? That people seem to aways be trying to divert responsibility for whatever has happened? It makes one weary to try and wade through this, and it’s impossible to escape the blame that people seem to be throwing about. The great news is that, because He has loved and chosen you, and because of the work that Christ has accomplished, then you are, at least before God (who is the one that ULTIMATELY matters), blameless. Christ has taken our blame, He has paid the price, we are free from this blame game. The enemy can point at us, and accuse us (which is what the name ‘Satan’ means – ‘accuser’) all that he likes, but not matter what he says, God says that we are blameless!
4. … in Christ.
All this is because of our position before God – in Christ. This is because of the completed work of Jesus. And so this is our position, we have faith in what Christ has done, we are saved by the grace of God, and then our position is changed, from being ‘in Adam’ to being ‘in Christ’ – what good news this is! Because we are ‘in Christ’ rather than ‘in Adam’ we are able to obtain all of these wonderful blessings, and to take hold of the promises that God has given to His people!
What good news to ponder on and remind ourselves!
